This video demonstrates how to position your violin on your shoulder, as described on page 10 of Violinworks Book 1. Please click here to order a copy of the book.
- The aim of this exercise is to position the violin comfortably on your shoulder so that you can hold it with a relaxed posture, and without tension in your neck or arms.
- Always try to maintain a balanced, relaxed posture when you play.
- Try to keep your head facing forwards so that your neck is not twisted, but don’t ‘clamp’ the instrument between your head and shoulder – your neck should be free to move so that you can easily turn your head if you need to.
- See page 10 of Violinworks Book 1 for further advice.
