This is a video demonstration of the ‘low 2nd finger warm-up’ on page 91 of Violinworks Book 1. Listen carefully to the tuning of the low 2nd-finger C naturals. Here are a few tips:

  • Be aware of your left wrist while you play this exercise – it should stay relaxed and in line with your hand and forearm.
  • Quite a common mistake is to squash the wrist up towards the neck when playing with a low 2nd-finger – try to move the finger back from the base knuckle without disturbing the shape of your hand.
  • When you can play this exercise confidently, repeat it on the other strings using the same fingering.
